Sgt. Orton served in a number of leadership roles within the Cedar City Police Department. He was a combative instructor, on the peer support team, and a shift and bike patrol supervisor. He also specialized in crime scene reconstruction and was the lead and assisting investigator on murder and felony crime scenes. He excelled and instructed other officers and DCFS employees in the forensic interview technique(to be used with children who were victims of abuse and sexual assault). Dustin became intrigued by the trauma effects on the brain and most importantly the impact it had on those who suffered at the hands of others. This included the observation of other's mental health, and why some were more resilient and others greatly struggled. Helping those who had been negatively impacted to become survivors and lead happy and mentally healthy lives became a priority.
The trauma seen and experienced firsthand with first responders was the greatest motivator in reaching out to those to help the community by helping first responders and those who serve or have served our country in the armed forces. Trauma was also experienced and was seen in daily living within our community. He chose this profession to prioritize making a difference in the lives of community members who are in need.
