Our Mission

The first KidsRead "Little Library" premiered on August 4, 2019 with the sole purpose of providing books to the under-served children in Uganda. They are encouraged to take a book, read it and return it for another book. There are 150 or more books in each library. They range from picture books for the very young, to story books for older children, and even some early tutorial and work books. We purchase books from local publishers and use local artisans to build and paint our libraries. We are planning on using and providing more services after the end of the pandemic.

Education

Free education is limited in Uganda due to the large number of children living in our country. Our mission is to provide books to the under-served children around Kampala and beyond. We aim to help them learn, grow, and experience a world which they might not have otherwise. We have recently introduced CLIP (Children Learning Independently Program) which will provide educational workbooks directly to the children. This will help them begin to reach for their potential as good citizens and productive individuals for their communities and themselves.

Helping Learners

With your help we have provided masks, sleeping nets and hand washing stations to our children in five communities. All donations go directly to programs for our children. There are no paid employees with Kids Read. Our Volunteers are qualified professionals and we all love what we do! Kids Read Foundation is a 501c3. Registered & Certified in Uganda, we are pursuing an NGO to helps us reach more minds and help more communities!

Programs

Within our first year as an organization, we opened five of our twelve libraries for the communities of Kabalagala, Kibuli, Katwe, Nsambya and Kosovo. We now have twelve libraries built and ready to serve our communities, but the pandemic has prevented us from doing so. We have since shifted our focus to providing food to all five cities, giving out 20,500 meals to our children and their families during the months of June & July of 2020. We began the CLIP program, which has given children at home even more learning opportunities. Together we have provided programs and services such as:

  1. Libraries
  2. Food
  3. CLIP at home learning
